Mesh cladding for the Grand Theatre of Casablanca submitted for an ATEx

The Grand Theatre of Casablanca, which will open in late 2018, is adorned with 3,000 m2 of mesh cladding on its front façade. Made of panels consisting of acrylic resin and mineral fillers, it uses KRION®, manufactured by Porcelanosa. In 2017, a case “b” Technical Experimentation Assessment (ATEx) was requested. As part of the ATEx procedure, CSTB experts checked whether the cladding and its hanging system on a metal structure poses a risk of falling on people. They analyzed the ability of the mesh to resist wind loads and seismic stress conditions. Mechanical resistance tests on the fixing system and static tests on the panels demonstrated good wind resistance. In addition, the CSTB conducted a study based on calculations to analyze the earthquake resistance of the structure in accordance with Eurocode 8 and the Moroccan seismic code.
