R&D partnership in Korea to improve the acoustic comfort of buildings

As part of a partnership agreement between the CSTB and its Korean counterpart, the Land and Housing Institute (LHI), CSTB experts conducted a study in 2017 of the level of noise emitted by waste water drainage in apartment buildings in South Korea and its causes. The CSTB acoustic test laboratories in Grenoble and Marne-la-Vallée, among few such facilities in the world, are experienced in characterizing the drainage pipes and their supports from the standpoint of transmission of airborne and structure-borne noise. After a year of study and comparison of the measurements with the results calculated by the AcouBAT acoustic prediction software of the CSTB, a manual of guidelines will be developed in 2018. It aims to assist stakeholders in the design and installation of waste water drainage facilities in Korean bathrooms.
