Recreating a suitable climate under the greenhouse of the Beauval ZooParc

Before starting the construction work for the future bioclimatic dome at the Beauval ZooParc in October 2017, CMF, a company specialized in the construction of greenhouses, asked the CSTB to validate the design assumptions for the interior climate of this dome measuring more than 100 meters in diameter. The expertise of CSTB engineers, in conjunction with the results of the digital modeling tools, OpenFOAM and MATHIS, helped refine the energy consumption estimate for the dome. The CSTB report also verified that the natural ventilation system, combined with glass panels for light transmission and solar gain, which differ depending on orientation, can ensure the well-being of the animal and plant species housed in the space, as well as the comfort of visitors.
