The NF DTU 36.5 standard – the only reference for installing windows, French windows, window sets, joinery sets and exterior doors – is being revised. It applies to all types of materials – steel, aluminum, wood, PVC and composite – for new builds and renovation.

Since it came out in 2010, new solutions have emerged, such as installing windows with external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) or installing windows in timber framed structures. The most common installation principles will be explained in the new version, which should be released in 2021. For the installation of windows with external thermal insulation, the new DTU will be based on CSTB Specification 3709: “Systems of external thermal insulation beneath coating: principles of use around frames in connection with a window or an exterior door.”
