BIM at the service of the Pays d’Aix Hospital

The Pays d’Aix Hospital is going to be rehabilitated and enlarged. It turned to the CSTB to help it use BIM for the project. One major challenge for this project owner was how to optimize the way the new building would be used. To give guidance on this matter, the CSTB decided, right from the design phase, to specify the information to be entered into the BIM digital model of the hospital, so that, eventually, it will dialogue with the operating software programs. In concrete terms, several hundred objects of the future hospital were semantically enabled in OpenBIM, including 80% of the technical equipment (electricity, plumbing, medical fluids, heating / ventilation / air conditioning, fire safety, biomedical equipment, etc.). BIM will thus be the general information system, bringing together the static data (descriptions of the equipment from the digital model) and the dynamic data (alarms, consumption, temperatures, etc., sent by the operating software). All of this will facilitate the geolocation, management and maintenance of the building’s equipment, thereby improving its operating performance.
