EPADESA and the CSTB at the center of the BIM revolution: creation of a multiscale modeling system for La Défense Seine Arche

On Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the BIM World trade fair, Alexandre Valot, Deputy Financial and Administrative Director of EPADESA and Étienne Crépon, President of the CSTB, signed a partnership agreement for the implementation of a multiscale BIM system, a unique tool adapted to the development of projects for the Espace Défense Seine Arche.

Since 2011, the French Public Establishment for the Development of La Défense Seine Arche (EPADESA) has been engaged in a process of innovation by acquiring a high-performance geographic information system (GIS). The emergence of Building Information Modeling (BIM) over the past few years has presented an exceptional opportunity to improve the quality of the development and reliability of real-estate projects. BIM represents a crucial advantage as a common international language.

This is why EPADESA approached the CSTB, which has established expertise in this area, to define a program of experimentation on integrating BIM-based technology into the design and development of products and services for external users. Urban planners, architects, developers, users and communities: all of the partners of EPADESA can now use this new service to develop their projects.

The agreement signed by EPADESA and the CSTB has established a partnership aiming to create a genuinely interoperable benchmark model. In the long term, it will integrate all the topics associated with the feasibility of projects, at the scale of a building, a neighborhood or a region. The use of multiscale BIM will thus meet many needs of EPADESA and its clients. The tool will be tested for three years.

Eventually, the procedure and tools will be transferable to other development operations.
