The CSTB

The headquarters of the CSTB are based in Marne-la-Vallée, east of Paris, with a staff of 636 people and 30 test facilities in premises of 48,000 square-meters. The teams of engineers and researchers provide stakeholders in construction and urban development with a broad range of services in the fields of energy and environment, health and comfort, risk management, economy of construction and social sciences. The Paris site is also home to CSTB subsidiaries and a training center and it serves as a prestigious venue for welcoming French and foreign guests.

Activities

The CSTB teams in the Paris region support public and private stakeholders through research and expertise missions, along with assessment and certification services. The publishing department is also based in Marne-la-Vallée.

To meet the needs of professionals and stakeholders, the CSTB teams have developed a complete array of scientific and technical skills. They possess comprehensive knowledge of safety requirements for buildings to improve the solidity of structures and fire resistance, fluid pipe systems, and the durability of envelopes. The teams in Marne-la-Vallée are also attentive to economic and social issues and collaborate with other CSTB departments to spur advances in the overall performance of buildings and neighborhoods (energy, environment, health, comfort).

The CSTB Marne-la-Vallée site obtained ISO 50 001 certification in December 2014 and continues to implement policies to improve the energy performance of its own buildings.

Partner of the University of East Paris

The CSTB is a key player in the Marne-la-Vallée area and a partner of the science and technical institutes of the East Paris university cluster. Among other initiatives, the CSTB founded the academic training program for tradesmen in sustainable construction in conjunction with the Marne-la-Vallée technical institute (IUT), with a focus on sustainable buildings and energy efficiency renovations applied to the construction trades. Dominique Naert, Director of the CSTB’s Paris sites, is also President of the Marne-la-Vallée IUT.

The CSTB participates in the BIM Masters degree programs of two schools of engineering, the École nationale des ponts et chaussées (ENPC) and the École spéciale des travaux publics, du bâtiment et de l'industrie (ESTP), to train the engineers of tomorrow in the use of digital modeling. It also contributes to the Masters degree program in Real Estate, Building and energy for construction industry managers.

The CSTB Paris site

Located in the 16th district of Paris, this site hosts meetings of the CSTB with its partners and stakeholders for corporate presentations, working groups and events. A showroom presents the CSTB’s activities and serves as venue for welcoming professionals in the construction business.
The site also includes a training center and the offices of CSTB subsidiaries.
