Specific tests

In addition to the measures called "traditional", we can make measurements that will allow you to "see" the sound pass through your product and, for all desired frequency bands.

Automotive, Rail, Aerospace:  We can test all types of car, train, boat, airplane elements...
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Sound reduction index R according the NF EN ISO 10140- 1 and 2 measured in the DELTA chamber for horizontal elements and in the EPSILON or MEGA chambers for vertical elements, and evaluated according to NF EN ISO 717-1
  • Rainfall noise Ln,i (windshield, rear hatch, ...) according to the draft standard NF EN ISO 10140-1 amd 2 10140-5 amd 1 measured in the DELTA chamber.

Any other action may be considered, including non standardized insulations, vibration, or acoustic imaging.

 

Roller shutter: We can test all types of roller shutter 

On these elements, we can achieve the following standardized measurements:

  • Sound insulation of a standard element, Dn,e, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 measured in the EPSILON chamber and evaluated according to NF EN ISO 717-1

The tests are performed in a 360 mm thick reinforced concrete frame whose opening is specially adapted to this measurement (trunk length of 1450 mm). Schematic of the frame available. A lintel can be customized on the back of the trunk to be in “new” configuration.

Chests with air intake will be systematically aerodynamically tested.

Roofs : We can test all types of roof: roofs, roofing, for veranda … 

On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measures:

  • Sound reduction index R, according to NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 measured in the DELTA chamber and evaluated according to NF EN ISO 717-1
  • Absorption coefficient (for roofs whose interior is particularly absorbent) according to NF EN ISO 354 measured in the ALPHA chamber and evaluated according to DIN NF EN ISO 11654.
  • Rainfall noise Ln, i according to the draft standard NF EN ISO 10140-1 amd 2 and NF EN ISO 10140-5 amd 1 measured in the DELTA chamber. 

Tests of airborne sound reduction are made in the full section of the testing rooms (4220 mm x 3600 mm, or about 15 m²).

Linings : We can test all types of lignings.
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measures:

  • Improvement of airborne sound insulation index ∆R according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 measured in the EPSILON chamber and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-1.
  • Measuring the dynamic stiffness according the NF EN ISO 29052-1 suitable for doublings.

Improvement of airborne sound reduction tests are made in the full section of the testing rooms (4180 mm x 2470 mm for EPSILON) or approximately 10.5 m².

We have a number of wall types that are available to you for this type of test:

  • Concrete wall 160 mm thick,
  • Masonry wall in hollow concrete block 200 x 200 x 500 mm mortar coating (15 mm) on one side.
  • Hollow brick masonry wall is 200 x 200 x 500 mm mortar coating (15 mm) on one side.

We can of course implement any other wall support if necessary.

 

Road screens: We can do the following standard measurements:

  • Single index for evaluating the sound absorption DLαa according to NF EN 1793-1 measured in the ALPHA chamber
  • Single index to assess the airborne sound insulation DLr according to NF EN 1793-2 measured in the MEGA chamber. 

For absorption tests, the model will be approximately 12 square meters and its fields will be hidden by a reverberant frame.

 

Noisy equipment: We can test all types of noisy equipment.
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Sound power level, Lw, according the NF EN ISO 3741 supplemented if necessary by the noise test code of harmonized European product standard measured in the ALPHA chamber
  • Level of airborne noise and structural noise of equipment, according the NF EN 15657-1 in the DELTA1 chamber


Ventilation equipment: We can test all types of ventilation equipment: air intake, exhaust valve, group, ...
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Sound insulation of a standard air inlet, Dn,e, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 completed by the standard NF P 50 402 and the regulations of the NF air inlet measured in the EPSILON chamber and evaluated according to NF EN ISO 717-1.
  • Sound insulation of a standard pair of terminal device Dn, e, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 completed by the standard NF P 51-701, measured in the EPSILON chamber and evaluated according the DIN EN ISO 717 - 1.
  • Sound power level of an exhaust valve Lw, according the NF EN ISO 3741 supplemented by the standard NF P 51 701, measured in the ALPHA chamber
  • Sound power level of a group of extraction through an exhaust valve Lw, according to NF EN ISO 3741 completed by the aerodynamics and acoustics test code of the NF controlled humidity ventilation, measured in the ALPHA chamber

Dn, e test of air inlets are carried out through a reinforced concrete 360 mm whose opening is specially adapted to this measure. Schematic of the frame available. NF controlled humidity ventilation certifies the acoustic performance (Dn, e) thereof (initial type testing, production monitoring, control).

 

Windows, doors, skylights and doors: We can test all types of windows, French windows, skylights, glazing and doors (of any size).
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Sound reduction index R, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 measured in the MEGA chamber and evaluated according the DIN EN ISO 717-1.
  • Rainfall noise Ln, i (including roof windows and glazing) according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 amd 2 and NF EN ISO 10140-5 amd1 standards,  measured in the DELTA chamber

The acoustic performance of doorsets, blocks bays, windows doors windows, skylights, and windows can be certified through the brands:

  • Acotherm (exterior joinery)
  • FASTE
  • CEKAL

The tests are carried in frames of reinforced concrete which are 360 mm thick.
We have a number of reference walls that are made available for this type of test:

  • Concrete wall 360 mm thick with an opening table of 1450 mm x 1480 mm (frame with  ACOTHERM windows dimensions)
  • Concrete wall 360 mm thick with an opening panel 1450 mm x 2180 mm (frame with ACOTHERM glass door dimensions)
  • Concrete wall 360 mm thick with an opening table of 1250 mm x 1500 mm (frame with CEKAL dimensions (identical to the NF EN ISO 140-3)) 
  • Concrete wall 360 mm thick with an opening panel 2000 mm x 3000 mm (used for non-standard carpentry or joinery sliding  with ACOTHERM dimensions)
  • Concrete wall 360 mm thick with an opening panel 1200 mm x 2200 mm (used for doorsets and ACOTHERM FASTE)

 

Absorbing materials:  We can test all types of absorbing materials: mineral wool, foam, ceiling, seating room (shows, movies, cars ...), road screens, wall coverings, textile floor coverings, human furniture ...
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measuresments:

  • Absorption coefficient αas (or A) according the NF EN SO 354 measured in the ALPHA chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 11654.
  • Sound absorption coefficient and the impedance, in normal incidence, of a porous material according to standard NF EN ISO 1534-2, with an impedance tube (Ø 100 mm and 45 mm).
  • Air flow resistivity according the NF EN ISO 29053
  • Dynamic stifness according the NF EN 29052-1

For tests on plane absorbers, tests are performed on a 12 m² surface, whose fields are hidden by a reverberant frame.
For very specific applications, we have impedance tubes of square cross section of 40x40 cm² and 80x80 cm² for the evaluation the sound absorption at low frequencies.


Thermo-acoustic insulation materials:  We can test all types of porous materials: Mineral Wool, foam, ...
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Absorption coefficient αs (or A) according to NF EN 20354 measured in the ALPHA chamber and evaluated according to DIN EN ISO 11654.
  • Dynamic stiffness (for applications of doublings or sub layers) according to NF EN 29052-1
  • Air flow resistivity (for porous materials) according to NF EN 29053.


The absorption coefficient tests are performed on an area of 12 m², which fields are masked by a reflective frame.
The development of acoustic products in a building system (partition, fills, underlay under screed, dubbing ...) can be compared.

The brand ACERMI allows certifying (Initial type testing, production monitoring and control) for the ground products (sub-layer under screed and under tiles) the parameters of the harmonized European product standard required for CE marking of these products and parameters described in standard NF P 61-203 (DTU 26.2 and addition of 52.1).

These parameters are the ∆L, the dynamic stiffness, the variation of the dynamic stiffness (under 4 Kg) before and after mechanical creep, the absorption coefficient and optionally the air flow resistivity r

 

Walls, Partitions, Curtain walling, cladding:

 We can test all types of wall, partition or curtain wall: traditional masonry wall (concrete blocks, bricks, ...), partition (dimpled, masonry, dry), curtain walling, cladding industrial
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Sound reduction index R, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 measured in the MEGA or EPSILON chambers, and evaluated according the EN ISO 717-1.
  • Absorption coefficient αs (perforated cladding for example) according to NF EN 20354ISO 354, measured in the ALPHA chamber, and evaluated according to NF EN ISO 11654.
  • Normalized flanking level difference, Dn,f according the NF EN ISO 10848-2 standard, measured in CSTB-Grenoble and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-1 standard.

Tests of airborne sound insulation are made in the full section of the testing rooms (4180 mm x 2470 mm for EPSILON and 3570 mm x 2970 mm for MEGA), about 10.5 m.
We have a number of support walls that are available to you for this type of test:

  • Concrete wall 160 mm thick,
  • Masonry wall with hollow concrete blocks 200 mm x 200 mm x 500 mm mortar coating (15 mm) on one side.
  • Hollow brick masonry wall is 200 mm x 200 mm x 500 mm mortar coating (15 mm) on one side.

 

Ceilings:  We can test all types of ceilings: plaster, fiber, staff, tense. On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Normalized flanking level difference of the suspended ceiling, Dn,f according the NF EN ISO 910848-2 measured in the PHI chamber,  and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-1.
  • Absorption coefficient αs according the NF EN ISO 354 measured in the ALPHA chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 11654.
  • Sound reduction index R, with and without suspended ceiling on any type of support floor, according the NF EN ISO 10140 1 and 2 measured in the DELTA chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-1.

Normalized flanking level difference of the suspended ceiling, Dn,f are formed on a surface of about 47 m², with a plenum of 705 mm. We can also test the influence, for example, of the insertion of fixtures or chilled beams in the ceiling.
For tests of R and Ln the tests are carried on a surface of 15 m² (4200 mm x 3600 mm). For this, we have a whole floor media types:

  • Reinforced concrete floor 140 and 150 mm thick, used in particular for the ∆L

For testing absorption coefficient, αs the test surface is approximately 12 m². We have three peripheral frames (100, 200 and 300 mm) to hide fields from the ceiling.

 

Bearing floors:  We can test all types of flooring: solid concrete floor, floor joists interjoists, floor joist slabs, wooden floor, ... with or without treatment or on the underside.
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Sound reduction index R according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 measured in the DELTA chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-1.
  • Imact noise level Ln according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 3, measured in the DELTA chamber and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-2.

We have a number of flooring types that are available to you:

  • Reinforced concrete floor of 150 mm thick (warming)
  • Reinforced concrete floor of 140mm thick
  • Lightweight reference floor type 1 of the according to NF EN ISO 140-5

The maximum test surface is 15 m² (4200 mm x 3600 mm being the maximum aperture of our laboratory); the minimum test surface (for standardized tests) 10 m².
  

Technical floors : We can test all types of raised floor.
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Normalized flanking level difference of elementa technical floor, Dn,f, according the NF EN ISO 10848-2 measured in the PHI chamber,  and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-1.
  • Standardized lateral impact noise level, Ln, f, according the NF EN ISO 10848-2 measured in the PHI chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-2.
  • Improvement of impact sound insulation ∆L of technical floor, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 3 measured in the DELTA  chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-2.
  • Improvement of sound reduction index R, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 measured in the DELTA chamber, and evaluated according  the NF EN ISO 717-1.

Testing Dn,f, and Ln, f are the most common tests for raised floors. They are made on a surface of about 47 m², with a floor at 150 mm from the ground.
For tests of ∆R and ∆Ln, we have a set of floor surfaces:

  • Reinforced concrete slab of 140 and 150mm thick, used in particular for ∆L
  • Lightweight reference floor type 1 of the according to NF EN ISO 140-5, used in particular for ∆Lt1

 

Flooring: We can test all types of flooring: resilient flooring (resilient, textile, ...), parquet, laminate floating floor, tile...
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Impact noise insulation improvement ∆L according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 3 measured in the DELTA  chamber, or according the NF EN ISO 16251-1 standard, measured in the DELTA chamber and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-2.
  • Improvement of impact sound insulation on lightweight floor, ∆Lti according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 3 standard, measured in the DELTA chamber.
  • Walking noise in a room with flooring mounted in this room, Ln, e according the NF S 31-074 measured in the DELTA chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-2.
  • Improvement of sound reduction index ∆R, of floor covering, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 2 measured in the DELTA chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-1.
  • Impact noise level Ln with and without floor covering on non-standard floors, according the NF EN ISO 10140-1 and 3 measured in the DELTA chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 717-2.
  • Absorption coefficient αs (especially for textile floor coverings) according the NF EN ISO 354 measured in the ALPHA chamber, and evaluated according the NF EN ISO 11654.
  • Dynamic stiffness of the under layers under screed according the NF EN 29052-1

The NF UPEC.A+ can certify (Initial type testing, production monitoring and control) the ∆L of resilient PVC floor covering
We have a number of flooring types that are available to you for these types of tests:

  • Reinforced concrete floor of 140 mm thick, used in particular for ΔL
  • Floor of reinforced concrete 150 mm thick (heating) used especially for part of the NF UPEC.A+
  • Lightweight reference floor type 1 of the according to NF EN ISO 140-5

We can of course implement other support floor if necessary. 


Plumbing fixtures and Hydraulic Equipment:  We can test all types of valves and hydraulic equipment: tap, shower, float valve, stop valve…
On these elements, we can achieve the following standard measurements:

  • Equipment sound pressure level Lap, according the NF EN ISO 3822-1 to 4 measured in the RHO chamber
  • Equipment sound power level Lw, according the NF EN ISO 3741 supplemented if necessary by the noise test code of harmonized European product standard, measured in the ALPHA chamber

The brands "NF sanitary fittings" and "NF building fittings" are used to certify (Initial type testing, production monitoring and control) the Lap of hydraulic equipment.


Wastre water ducts: We can test all types of flue wastewater with their attachment system for assessing the sound of falling water.
Measures of performance regarding sound and vibration of the tube are made in accordance with EN 14366 for four water flow rates 0.5 l / s, 1.0 l / s, 2.0 l / s and 4.0 l / s.
We can make measurements of insertion loss of ducts with an installation inspired by the European standard EN 14366 of the measurement of the noise radiated from a wastewater duct.

 


Joints between structural components:  We can test all types of junctions. The vibration reduction index, Kij, of a junction is evaluated in the laboratory on the basis of the measurement standard NF EN ISO 10848-4. We can also make these measurements on site.

 

Specific tests: In addition to the measurement called "traditional", we can make measurements that will allow you to "see" the sound pass through your product and, for all desired frequency bands. Three methods are available:

  • Phonoscopy in Grenoble (see: research letter No. 49 of January 2002)
  • Acoustic holography to LABE
  • Intensity point by point LABE

Other tests are possible such as:

  • Intensity measurement 
  • Structural reverberation time
  • Shaker excitation of structure and simultaneous measurement of mechanical power injected and the acoustic power radiated by the structure.

  •
