Thermal Insulation: Implementation Issues

Beyond this regulation, the Grenelle de l’Environnement has placed the challenge of global warming centre stage. The objective is to reduce France’s greenhouse gas emissions by a factor of four. In the building sector, these objectives can be reached only with, in particular, a substantial reinforcement of insulation of glass walls, such as opaque walls.

Current insulating materials already make it possible to reach the levels of insulation required on the sole condition that they are designed and implemented very carefully. Indeed, the singular points that may be thermal bridges, parasitic air inlets, or implementation flaws may represent a considerable part of the loss.

The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the increasing importance of the high quality needed for the conditions of designing and implementing insulating materials, making it possible to make the most of the technical potential of insulating materials.
